WEBSITE HISTORY —

As rehab therapists treating patients with medical issues, both my sister and I always believed strongly in creating environments that support patient empowerment, hope, and informed decision making. We then found ourselves needing to personally apply this approach when she was diagnosed with ocular melanoma.

Later, with this same perspective and drawing from additional experience in public health communication roles, I established EyeMelanoma.org in her honor in 2011 as a not-for-profit website that focuses specifically on providing patients and their families with up-to-date online links to useful resources and to reliable information on this rare cancer. (See "Website Methodology" section below for details.)

EyeMelanoma.org is designed to be a calming counterbalance to information overload and scattered results when searching on the internet for research, treatment, and support services. For 14 years, this U.S.-based website has continued to compile/post links every month, aiming to facilitate access to the informational needs of both those newly diagnosed and those many years along. Please spread the word ... EyeMelanoma.org is organized to quickly get the OM community to a wealth of important resources and information.

The EyeMelanoma.org website will also always be a place of encouragement. When using the links — to organizations, support groups and services, educational videos, patient guides, search tools, journal articles, conference presentations, and the many other types of resources compiled here — may you be heartened by the expanding and crucial work being done in ocular melanoma research, treatment, and support by truly dedicated people.​
